CONTEMPORARY TRADITION

Where folklore meets politics

Ksenia Kazintseva (03.09.1998) is an Eastern European artist exploring her roots through Ukrainian and Russian folklore. Ksenia graduated from Kingston University with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art and holds an MA in Arts & Cultural Management from King's College London. Her paintings, immersive installations, performances and participatory workshops create safe spaces to reconnect with your identity through visual storytelling, learning traditional crafts, listening to ancient song and being surrounded by fragrances that evoke memories of spiritual experiences. Using colourful pattern, found objects, and embroidery techniques, Ksenia transforms every day objects into talismans that protect and connect us.

Ksenia's work has been featured at Shtager Gallery and Saatchi Gallery for START Art Fair, exhibited as part of "Chaos & Hope" at Hypha Studios, "Fanzineist Vienna" at Semper Depot, "Bookish" at Stanley Picker Gallery, "71 Days" at Platform Gallery, "Nostalgia & Beyond" at RHACC, "Cass Art Festiva" at Bargehouse OXO Tower, as a solo show "Essential Aspects" at Avionics. Her research funded by Stanley Picker Gallery and Kingston University is also part of "Cracks in the Canon: Modernism and Censorship in Eastern Europe" conference publication, Dennis Ioffe and Kamila Kocialkowska (eds), 2023, Éditions de l'Université de Bruxelles), and published in Russian Art & Culture magazine. Ksenia has also co-created "Common Threads" interdisciplinary workshop and touring programme with the National Trust, and has been featured in Battersea Power Station as part of a public installation curated in collaboration with Apple, Battersea Arts Centre and Curated Makers.

Ksenia is also among the founding members of Rethinking Eastern Europe, featured in Contemporary Lynx and British Journal of Photography, a collective run by Polish photographer and activist Zula Rabikowska highlighting the non-homogenous and progressive nature of the region that goes beyond media representations of it. Her work has been part of collective exhibitions "Rethinking Eastern Europe" at Les Rencontres d'Arles, Photobook Cafe and Format Festival, "Common Ground" at Brighton Photo Fringe, "In the Space Between Words" at Copeland Gallery. The latter has been reviewed by Professional Art Bullshitter and featured by Hector Campbell.

Ksenia has also co-produced and developed a vast array of creative events including the Richmond Arts & Ideas Festival, Wandsworth Arts Fringe, Croydon Harvest, Russian Art Week London, A Place to Call Home workshop programme and public installation with Royal College of Art, bringing in over 10,000 people to community events and raising over £60K through Arts Council England and donations income to support artists. Moreover, she was artist in residence at Chesterton School for multiple years working with over 200 students to create multimedia artworks. She is currently curating an exhibition with Antonio Olimpo in Bari, Italy.
