Rethinking Eastern Europe

Mixed media installation, series of performances and workshops

Our work as a collective is focused on challenging the homogenous notions of the region, reimagining its visual identity and reclaiming key cultural elements that have been used to categorise Eastern European art.

We create collaborative work, exhibit internationally, create public interventions, talks and workshops to galvanise the energy of the creative community from the former Eastern Bloc, challenge notions of Eastness and uncover stories from the region not normally heard on the Western stage.

Common Threads

This collaborative project with 575 Wandsworth Road, National Trust, is a community memory and belonging quilt created through a series of workshops with groups from across the borough. It explores both individual belonging and cultural sites that shape our perception of local environments and act as spaces for connection.

Ink, felt, wool, cotton thread, acrylic.

Corner Man

a collaboration aiming to

explore the cultural value and impact

of corners using window psychology as a basis. In Eastern European culture, a corner sucks out negative energy, and is often a safe space. In traditional homes, the 'red' or 'beautiful' corner houses icons. How has this translated into modern day? Why do spaces with many corners often feel safe or inviting?
